چکیده

For the classic dynamic storage allocation problem, we show that knowledge of the durations of the requests is of no great use to an online algorithm in the worst case. This answers an open question posed by Naor, Orda, and Petruschka 5]. More precisely, we show that the competitive ratio of every randomized algorithm against an oblivious adversary is (logx loglogx), where x may be any of several diierent parameters used in the literature. It is known that First Fit, which does not require knowledge of the durations of the task, is logarithmically competitive in these parameters.

The Role of Regulatory in Price Control and Spectrum Allocation to Competing Wireless Access Networks

With the rapid growth of wireless access networks, various providers offer their services using different technologies such as Wi-Fi, Wimax, 3G, 4G and so on. These networks compete for the scarce wireless spectrum. The spectrum is considered to be a scarce resource moderated by the spectrum allocation regulatory (“regulatory” for short) which is the governance body aiming to maximize the socia...

Hybrid Channel Allocation in Wireless Cellular Networks

The enormous growth of mobile telephone traffic, along with the limited number of channels available, requires efficient reuse of channels. Channel allocation schemes can be divided into three categories: Fixed Channel Allocation (FCA), Dynamic Channel Allocation (DCA) and Hybrid Channel Allocation (HCA). In HCA, channels are divided into two disjoint sets: one set of channels is assigned to ea...

Demand-Driven Dynamic Spectrum Allocation in Heterogeneous Cellular Networks

In this paper, we address the dynamic spectrum allocation problem in next generation cellular networks under the coordinated dynamic spectrum access (CDSA) model. Firstly, considering spectrum demands of base stations, we formulate spectrum allocation under physical interference models as a nonlinear optimization problem. Then, we propose a demand-driven dynamic spectrum allocation algorithm by...

Evaluating the importance of dynamic allocation and routing of rescuers in reducing response time

Due to delay in receiving emergency medical services, a high number of injured people and patients annually lose their lives. Determining the medical service area and correct routing of rescuing operation is influential on the reduction of rescuers’ response time. Changing the traffic flow leads to change of medical service area. Therefore, it is expected that by observing changing traffic, the...

Capacity Optimization for Local and Cooperative Spectrum Sensing in Cognitive Radio Networks

The dynamic spectrum allocation solutions such as cognitive radio networks have been proposed as a key technology to exploit the frequency segments that are spectrally underutilized. Cognitive radio users work as secondary users who need to constantly and rapidly sense the presence of primary users or licensees to utilize their frequency bands if they are inactive. Short sensing cycles should b...
